Pizza Rolls

I've been following food blogs for a while now. When I saw this particular recipe I couldn't stop thinking about all the possibilities for different fillings and toppings that are interchangeable in this recipe. Such a fantastic idea!! I had to share it with you.

Pizza Rolls

  • 1 store bought pizza dough (or make your own pizza dough)
  • pepperoni (I used turkey pepperoni..but you can use either)
  • mozzarella cheese
  • butter or olive oil (to brush on top)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon parmesan cheese
  • marinara sauce

Stretch or roll out your pizza dough, on a lightly floured surface, into a rectangle. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut it into squares. The original recipe for these said to have 24 squares. I think next time I will cut it into 16 squares and just have them be a little bigger.

Place pepperoni and mozzarella on each square of dough (use as much or as little as you like). Bring the corners up to the middle and hold together until the entire thing is covered and then pinch to seal shut. Place each ball, seam side down, in a pie pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Continue this method until all of the pizza balls are complete.

Melt some butter in the microwave (maybe 1 tablespoon) and then brush over all the pizza rolls. Sprinkle them with the italian seasoning, garlic powder and parmesan cheese.

Bake in the oven @ 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with marinara sauce. You can use your favorite sauce from a jar, or you can make my simple marinara

Farrah's Marinara Sauce

  • 1 15oz can of tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion salt
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
  • additional salt & pepper to taste

In a small saucepan add the tomato sauce and all seasonings. Stir to combine and cook over medium heat while the pizza rolls are cooking. Taste the sauce and adjust your seasoning. I added about 1/8 tsp kosher salt & a pinch of pepper. Serve as a dipping sauce for the pizza rolls.

This was a HUGE success. We literally could not stop eating them. I have so many ideas for other fillings and toppings that I am sure I will be sharing with you in the future! You really need to try these!
